CHAPTER ELEVEN

Fawn hummed as she cuddled up to Kiyoshi. She’d been lounging in the tub, relaxing while watching the moon play across the current in the bay. The bright lights of Tokyo beckoned her to come out of the safety of the apartment and explore. Right now, she was content to sit there and observe from afar.

The one thing she had been thinking about as she dosed, enjoying the warm bath after being so afraid she’d never see clean water again, and why Kiyoshi chose her. He could have had anyone. Between being the heir-apparent to the Yamamoto Syndicate, he was also a very handsome man.

He gagged her with his good looks.

He deserved a woman who matched him.

Not her.

“Have you been sleeping in the tub, Chōcho?”

She shook her head. “Mostly relaxing. Staring out at the view, which is impressive.” She glanced up at him. Even now, sitting there, the harsh lines of his imperialistic features intimidated her, while also turning her on. “Can I ask you a question?”

“You already did,” he teased.

She huffed a laugh, shaking her head. She knew these moments were fleeting. At some point, the reality of their situation would sit in, and the nightmares would start, so would the panic attacks and probably worse. “Why did you kiss me?”

He pulled her up gently, forcing her to straddle his lap. With his hand wrapped around her neck like it was, he stroked her throat with his thumb, lulling her back into her relaxed state. “Did you not want me to kiss you?”

Her eyes dropped as heat filled her cheeks. It would be so easy with the way they were positioned for him to slip inside of her. The thrill of the thought licked at her spine, and she mentally shivered. “I’m worried I’ve helped you cheat on someone I don’t know or who might not even exist.”

“You think I’ve married?” He tilted his head. His questioning tone was gentle, inquisitive.

“We haven’t seen each other in a very long time, Kiyoshi,” she said, desperate to keep the tremble out of her voice. “You could have married and had a child by now.”

“So could you have,” he replied, his voice unchanging. “Though maybe not a child, yet.”

He had a point, too. She’d told him about Jesse, and she had already talked about marriage. “I just want to know I’m not doing something I’ll ever regret.”

“Do you regret it now?”

Fawn shook her head, then gave a little shrug as embarrassment filled her. “Never. Just... you know.”

“Where would I keep this wife and child so I could have you as my mistress?” Amusement lit his eyes. He was having fun with her while she was trying to be serious. Asshole.

“Virginia. Somewhere where Jiji and daddy could keep them protected, if need be,” she said as if she didn’t understand why he hadn’t had thought about that first.

He reached between them and fit himself to her entrance. “And somewhere, where we could do this,” he shifted his hips, surging upward, filling her
